“Life before I joined Place2Be (Future’s one-to-one counselling) was really hard and quarantine didn’t make that any better.”
I joined Future because I heard there was a place to talk, I struggle with my mental health, family issues and self confidence; so when I knew I had a chance to get better I asked for help. I started Place 2 Talk and then started counselling for even further guidance and to learn to cope with emotions that ‘talk over me’. The people at Future are so kind and supportive and there are so many activities, so it won’t be hard for anyone to find something they like, my personal favourite is the music room. The process has helped me realise that even though this feeling feels ‘weird’ or ‘unreal’ its normal to have your bad days because there are better days ahead.
Leah grew up being in and out of school getting excluded for bad behaviour and struggled with learning difficulties through her school life. She struggled with mental health and money issues with family at home.
• This situation caused her to get in with the wrong crowd, going places she shouldn’t and messing around and getting into trouble.
• The only constant thing throughout Leah’s life was the youth centre she was a member of. This was an escape from life and allowed her to speak to youth workers who really cared for her and listened to what she had to say, making her feel valued.

“Future has helped me change my humour and my happiness. Before I used the be angry at school, but Future helped me feel free, relaxed and is somewhere I don’t have to worry about things happening outside. Future has been some of the best times of my life” says Jaylen.
“Parenting is hard for anyone but thanks to my issues and being a single parent it’s a lot of added pressure and creates a real need for support especially for my son. Future Youth Zone has been absolutely amazing since day one, they have made Jaylen feel like part of the family, dealt with my meltdowns and been there for both of us! This is a youth club that goes above and beyond for all the young people and their families who attend. This is a charity I support because I’ve seen the work they do and it’s so important we have things like this in the community. They rely a lot on our support and for what they do it’s surely deserved. There’s lots of other children like my son who desperately need the support and a friendly face they can turn to whenever but also a safe space to learn new things and build many skills whilst having fun!” says Jaylen’s mum Aimee.
